A Walk in the Woods

image

The Appalachian Trail winds its way through the White Mountains near Franconia State Park in New Hampshire on its way to Maine. John and I entered the park woods to hike up the Flume Gorge.

You couldn’t ask for a more picturesque walk in the woods. The stream cutting through the gorge carved a beautiful path.

I’ve hiked a few trails in Georgia, North Carolina and Tennessee, but this was the first covered bridge I’ve ever seen on a trail.

First built in 1938 from a giant, felled pine, the bridge was an easy, pleasant and DRY way to traverse a stream.

We left the Flume Gorge and made our way to Conway for lunch and then a relaxing ride on the scenic railroad.

The fall colors were aflame…
