Cornstalks to Cat Tails

How many miles of corn fields are there in Ohio? Does every town have its own corn maze to celebrate Halloween? Did Children of the Corn take place in Ohio?

These were just a few of the questions that crossed my mind as we passed about a zillion corn fields driving through the great state of Ohio.

I was relieved to see the vineyards when we made it to Pennsylvania and into New York. Lake Erie appeared before us in Pennsylvania and followed us all the way to Buffalo, NY. The thought that Erie is the smallest of the Great Lakes made me laugh as I drove for miles with it on my left like some inland sea.

We pushed on through Buffalo and arrived at Four Mile Creek State Campground on Lake Ontario.

All four of the other Great Lakes feed into Lake Ontario via the Niagara River four miles west of here. Collectively, all five account for 20 percent of the world’s fresh water.

Looking across the lake from our campground, we could see the Toronto skyline.

Lake Ontario and Four Mile Creek combine to form a serene marsh which wasn’t so serene during the French and Indian War.

A lovely day in a beautiful part of our country. Hope the weather holds tomorrow when we visit Niagara Falls State Park.
