Locked in Love

If you get tired of visiting museums and/or touring centuries
-old monuments while in Paris, check out The Lock Bridge — a 21st century monument to everlasting love.

The Lock Bridge is a nice little footbridge across the Seine connecting the left and right banks. Couples wishing to proclaim their undying love for one another visit the bridge with a lock in hand and clasp it to the bridge. Needless to say, the bridge is covered in locks — shining a brassy gold or cool silver on a sunny day like today. There are thousands of them in all shapes and sizes — some decorated with the initials of the lovers in simple permanent marker colors while others are much more elaborate.

John and I were strolling across the bridge today with Tiana, Shannon and Grey. John estimated that half of the lovers who had clasped their locks of love to the bridge were no longer together. I prefer to think that the majority are still together and that, on occasion, their thoughts travel back to that moment on The Lock Bridge when they made a promise to each other.
